The plumbing within our home is typically out of sight and out of mind. Despite using it every single day, its autonomous, unlike a washing machine that needs to be turned on, or a coffee maker that needs to be programmed and filled with grounds. You flush the toilet or drain the tub and the water disappears, draining from your home as it supposed to. But, what happens when it doesn’t?
Making all your problems go down the drain
The team at Paramount Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning has been in business for over 20 years and in our over 20 years of business we’ve come across our fair share of clogged plumbing. From a kitchen sink with a stuck piece of food to a main sewage line for a home clogged with a ball of waste the size of Pennsylvania (not really but you get the idea!). We’ve unclogged and cleared more drains than we could ever count. That amount of experience not only makes us pros at clearing a pesky clog but also means we have the tools and equipment to clear any size clog.
Most homeowners are familiar with a plunger which typically is the first step in attempting to clear a clog. Plungers can be used for smaller clogs on sinks, tubs or toilets. While common place in most homes there actually are a few “tricks of the trade” in correctly utilizing a plunger to clear a clog. If and when a plunger cannot get the job done, then the next step would be attempting to clear the clog with what the industry refers to as a “snake”.
What is a drain snake?
Drain snaking or a plumber’s snake (also known as a sewer machine) is a tool that is either hand cranked or powered by a motor of varying size that features a long, metal cable with different sized and shaped heads. These machines vary in size from a hand held drill to ones that are so large they need a trailer for transport. When used to clear clogged plumbing the cable of the sewer machine is inserted into the clogged drain either through a cleanout or a fixture, most often a toilet, and turned in an attempt to catch, or grab whatever is blocking the drain.
While a homeowner can try to clear a small clog with a hand snake, we do not advise homeowners to attempt to use a motorized sewer machine as they can cause serious bodily damage when not used carefully and properly. Despite a sewer machines ability to clear the large majority of clogs throughout a home, there are instances when long standing clogs or years of build up in a drain system require a much larger and much more powerful approach. That’s where sewer jetting comes in.
Benefits of sewer jetting
Sewer or drain line jetting is a means of drain cleaning where a specialized hose is inserted into the clogged line and very high pressure water is forced through. This method of drain clearing is ideal for extensive build up as it is able to efficiently clear the stuck on waste from the inside of your drainage pipes. Think of it like a tool a doctor might use to clear a clogged artery.
The team at Paramount Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning is factory trained in the use of a drain line jetter and is proud to be one of the only companies able to offer this service to our customers. Our company has a range of jetters able to clear anything from a grease caked kitchen sink line to the main sewer line exiting your house.
If you notice your sinks, tubs and toilets draining slow, it may be time to have the expert team at Paramount Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning take a look to make sure everything is clear and flowing as it should. A slow drain or clog left untreated can lead to a large clog that overflows back into your home causing major damage and a big clean up!
